Privacy policy

YardScout is built so we know as little about you as possible. This page says exactly what stays on your phone, what leaves it, and why. No legalese tricks.
When you enter a zip code or use the location button, the distance to each yard is computed in your browser, on your device. Your zip code and GPS coordinates are never sent to us — we don't have a server that could receive them. The only network request a zip code triggers is a lookup of that zip's public latitude/longitude from zippopotam.us (a free public zip-code database), which learns nothing but the zip itself.
Hearted cars, your vehicle watchlist, and your settings live in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device, we can't see them, and clearing your browser data deletes them.
If you join the Pro waitlist, we store the email address you give us and use it for exactly one thing: telling you when Pro launches. It's never sold, shared, or used for anything else. Reply to any email from us (or contact us below) and we'll delete it.
We use GoatCounter, a privacy-first analytics tool: no cookies, no cross-site tracking, no personal profiles, and no data shared with advertisers. It counts things like “a page was viewed” and “someone entered a zip” (not which zip) so we know what's useful. That's the entire list.
We don't run ads, we don't sell data, and we don't share data with data brokers. Full stop.
The app downloads the yard inventory data file and yard price lists from our static hosting (GitHub Pages), and fonts from Google Fonts. Those requests carry the standard technical information any web request does (IP address, browser type), governed by GitHub's privacy policy and Google Fonts' privacy notes. We don't see or store any of it.
If you set up watchlist push alerts, notifications are delivered through ntfy.sh using a topic name you choose. Pick a random topic name and don't put personal information in it — anyone who knows the topic name can see its notifications.
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be called out in the app.
